Chin Augmentation

The majority of Thai and Asian people generally have a short chin that makes the overall facial appearance appear disproportionate and unattractive. Accordingly, chin augmentation has gained a lot of popularity. It is a surgery that enhances or reshapes the size of chin to make the face appear more proportionate and natural. It helps to solve problems for individuals who have small or large chins that are disproportionate. Likewise, chin augmentation also adjusts the chin that is too far back, which subsequently enhances the overall appearance. Indeed, the shape of a chin is one of the most important features that contributes to the beauty of the face.

F Clinic is committed to instill confidence in every woman of the safety and standards of surgical procedures. With that in mind, we have meticulously selected specialized surgeons to provide consultation in order to perform an accurate evaluation prior to the surgery. Likewise, we also provide nurses and personnel to take care of you before and after the surgery. With our high-quality tools and surgical equipment, you can be assured that F Clinic will redefine your chin with outstanding results.

Material Used in Chin Augmentation

Chin Augmentation with Silicone: F Clinic uses an extra soft silicone with high elasticity and natural texture that is identical to a real human chin. This type of silicone has been used in a cosmetic surgery industry for over a long period of time. Hence, it is a material that is durable, safe, and does not create any side effects.

Methods of Chin Augmentation at F Clinic

1. Extra-Oral Incision, which is an incision that is performed under the chin. However, it is not very common because the incision wound is visible on the outside. Nonetheless, the advantage of this type of incision is that it has a lower risk of infections than the internal incision.

Advantages :

  1. Lower risk of infections than internal incision
  2. Minor effects to the muscles and nerves since the surgeon can directly avoid the muscles and nerves in order to enter the mandible
  3. Easier to solve problems in the event that the silicone is shifted or slanted, since the surgeon can correct it by performing an external incision
  4. Easy to position the silicone

Disadvantages :

  1. Minor scar at approximately 2-3 centimeters in length
  2. External incision is not suitable for individuals who have keloid scar.

2. Intra-Oral Incision  is an internal incision in the oral cavity, between the gum and lower lip. The length of the incision is approximately 2 centimeters. After that, the periosteum is separated and the silicone is placed at the desired position. The incision is then sutured with dissolvable stiches. The procedure takes about 1 hour, after which the patient can immediately return home.

Advantages :

  1. Scar is not visible from the outside because the incision is inside.

Disadvantages :

  1. Although the incision is not visible from the outside, the incision wound inside the oral cavity is clearly visible.
  2. High risk of infection due to the presence of saliva in the oral cavity. Moreover, pieces of food may become in contact with the wound when eating.
  3. The implantation of silicone near the mandible has the possibility of translocation and may not be in accordance with the desired position.
  4. There is a possibility of problems relating to chin muscles and nerves, causing the muscles to contract and making the skin appear unsmooth from the outside.
  5. Limited area for surgery; the incision in the oral cavity has to be considerably long in order to implant the silicone, which results in tissue injuries and bleeding. Likewise, the suturing of wound is somewhat complicated.
  6. In the event that the silicone is shifted or slanted, it is difficult to be solved due to existing wounds in the oral cavity. Repetitive surgery will increase the number of wounds.
Who is Suitable for Chin Augmentation?
  1. Individuals with an abnormal occlusion or with a prominent chin
  2. Individuals with a small chin or the chin is too far back
  3. Individuals with an undesirable facial structure or a disproportionate jaw and chin
  4. Individuals with a short face and the chin is not proportional with other facial features
3 Reasons to Undergo Chin Augmentation at F Clinic
  1. Design and analyze the chin according to each individual’s face in order to obtain the best result for the overall appearance.
  2. Confident and safe with specialized surgeons.
  3. Provision of post-treatment care, specifically for patients who underwent chin augmentation, since this type of surgery requires intensive care during the first week after surgery in order to reduce swelling, bruises, and inflammation. The provided post-treatment care will reduce your recovery period.
Self-Preparation Prior to Undergoing Chin Augmentation at F Clinic

For the best results, patients should follow the guideline on selfpreparation as detailed below :

  1. Eating or drinking prior to the surgery is possible, since this type of surgery uses local anesthesia rather than general anesthesia. However, you should not be overly replete to prevent stomach discomfort during the surgery.
  2. Do not take medications that affect blood coagulation, such as aspirin, at least two weeks prior to the surgery. Discontinue the intake of herbs, vitamins, and other food supplements such as vitamin E, fish oil, grape seeds, ginkgo leaves, ginseng, and soybean products at least 3-5 days prior to the surgery, since these supplements may result in excessive bleeding.
  3. Avoid applying makeup on the face because if the face is not thoroughly and properly cleaned, it may lead to infection.
  4. Brush teeth and thoroughly clean the oral cavity in preparation to the surgery.
  5. Do not smoke cigarettes at least 4 weeks prior to and after the surgery, since smoking increases the wound healing process and the risk of infection.
  6. Do not drink alcohol the night before the surgery and 1 week after the surgery.
  7. Inform the surgeon of your chronic disease and history of allergies to oral medication and local or general anesthesia.
  8. You should be mentally prepared and not overly excited, and should acknowledge that there is a possibility of the occurrence of bruises after the surgery. Likewise, transformation requires time for the silicone to be in place and for the patient to be familiarized with the new appearance.
Self-Care after Chin Augmentation
  1. During the first 3 days after surgery, apply a cold compression on the chin to relieve pain and prevent swelling.
  2. Visit the clinic for wound cleaning on a daily basis during the first week after surgery in order to prevent the accumulation of food scraps, which are the main cause of infection and inflammation.
  3. During the first 4-6 days after surgery, apply a warm compression with a hard-boiled egg to relieve swelling and bruises.
  4. Sleep with the head in an elevated position. Do not sleep sideways or on a stomach, since this may harm the wound that is still inflamed.
  5. Take medications as prescribed by the doctor.
  6. During the first week after surgery, eat food with a straw to prevent food scraps from contacting with the wound area.
  7. Visit the clinic according to the appointment. Do not remove the adhesive bandage or sutures prior to the specified period.
  8. Clean the face with a damp cloth or with a skin cleansing product instead of washing the face.
  9. Bruises and swelling may occur after the surgery, especially during the first 1-2 weeks. However, the symptoms will gradually improve and, within 3-4 months, the tissues will return to normal. Some patients may take up to 6 months or 1 year.
  10. Avoid lowering the head, such as while reading a book, playing on a computer, and lifting a heavy object, and avoid shaking or inclining the face excessively, especially during the first 2 weeks.
  11. Avoid drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes for approximately 3 months.
  12. Avoid eating seafood, preserved food, spicy food, and hard food that are difficult to chew during the first month after surgery.
  13. Strenuous exercise, such as running and swimming is possible after 3 months onwards.
  14. In the event of any abnormal symptoms, please consult with the clinic immediately.

In general, F Clinic will recommend an internal incision in order to prevent the occurrence of scar on the outside that is explicitly visible and has a risk of keloid development in the future. Nonetheless, for an internal incision, patients must strictly take care of themselves, especially when eating in which patients must prevent food from being in contact with the wound during the first 2 weeks since this may lead to an infection.

Is the Incision Internal or External for Chin Augmentation at F Clinic?

During the first week after surgery, the doctor will make an appointment with the patient in order to clean the wound at no additional costs. Patients are recommended to clean the wound at the clinic since we have nurses who are specialized in wound care and able to clean food scraps thoroughly; and in order to prevent incorrect or improper cleaning of wound that may cause the stitches to accidentally become unraveled or may tear the wound.

Is It Possible to Clean the Wound at Home After the Surgery?

Silicone implant delivers a more defined shape than fat grafting. However, silicone implant requires incision and a relatively longer recovery period than fat grafting, and is suitable for patients with a short chin. Alternatively, fat grafting is suitable for patients with a cleft chin or those who wish to correct the shape of the chin to a small extent and do not want a long recovery time.

What is the Difference between Silicone Implant and Fat Grafting?

The duration of the surgery is approximately 1 hour.

How Long is the Operation?

Patients can return home immediately after the surgery and visit the doctor within 7 days to follow up with the results. Patients can resume their normal daily routine approximately 10 days after the surgery.

How Long is the Recovery?

Most patients will feel stiff around the wound area, which will gradually disappear within 1 week after the surgery. During such period, patients should eat soft food in order to prevent impact on the wound and may take an analgesic and anti-inflammatory drug.
